According to the deal, Beijing will gradually introduce LNG-fueled buses in the city, and designate Beijing Public Transport Holdings, Ltd. and other municipal units to speed up the process in this regard. CNPC, through its listed arm PetroChina Company Limited, will donate 100 vehicles during the first half of 2012, with an initial batch becoming operational by the end of the month.
The special bus line will be placed along the along the Chang’an Avenue where CNPC will also construct skid-mounted fueling stations. The partnership effectively supports the city government’s “Green Beijing” action plan to encourage the use of alternative fuels.
According to calculation, the PM2.5 emissions of a LNG bus are 90% plus lower than diesel powered ones. If all the current buses in Beijing were replaced by LNG buses, the PM2.5 emissions would be reduced to a great extent and the air quality in the city would be greatly improved.
