Sheffield-based gas containment systems manufacturer Chesterfield Special Cylinders (CSC) has delivered the first two tube trailers operating in Europe, which will transport hydrogen at high pressure to fueling stations located in London for the capital’s hydrogen buses.
The trailers can transport large volumes of hydrogen from central production facilities to fueling stations at a pressure of 500 bar, a significant enhancement to the existing 200 bar industrial hydrogen delivery models. Besides, they will be a key component in the bus refueling project in London, where they can operate as a mobile station.
“The deployment of this innovative design and technology helps to establish a long-term and viable hydrogen fueling infrastructure across the capital, with a view to deploying similar trailers across the UK and Europe,” said CSC managing director Mick Pinder.
For CSC, the contract is a significant step forward in its aspiration to become a major supplier to the global hydrogen market. “Chesterfield Special Cylinders designed and built the bespoke vehicles and will be playing a small but vital part in developing the potential for hydrogen to become the vehicle fuel of choice for residents of London,” added Pinder.
