The station, which will open this year, is a result of Woikoski’s own innovation process, built to conform to the EU directive for alternative fuels and global market standards. Hydrogen tanks are filled to either 350 or 700 bars according to choice. It features three main components: compression unit, buffer storage and dosing unit. The fuel is brought to the station either from separate production sites or produced on-site.
Woikoski’s fueling site is already being tested with a company-owned Hyundai ix35, registered as WOI-1. Currently, trials showed that a tank filled to the brim with hydrogen translates into a range of roughly 600 km. Moreover, many car manufacturers are planning to introduce hydrogen fuel cell cars to the consumer market in 2015.
The car and the innovative fueling station are just a part of the investments for hydrogen. During summer 2014, a new hydrogen plant will be started up at Kokkola Industrial Park and, at the same time, Woikoski will take modern hydrogen transport units into service.
