According to Cambra, as reported by Europa Press, the objectives of the agreement are the following: reducing emissions, enhancing competitiveness -LNG is 30% cheaper than oil-based fuels- and consolidating the Port of Barcelona as a logistics hub capable of attracting LNG supply traffic.
The Port of Barcelona has the first regasification plant in Spain, operated by Enagas, which expects to invest € 1.5 million to provide with LNG to vessels powered by this propulsion system and to barges in the harbor which serve other vessels, as from this year
The plans also include installing a natural gas refueling station for trucks in the port. Europa Press also reported that Gas Natural Fenosa seeks to add an auxiliary LNG engine on a ferry.
Daniel López informed that Spain currently has 17 LNG filling stations and is the third country in the world with the largest LNG fueling infrastructure, behind China and the United States.
