Erik Thun A.B. has granted shipyard Ferus Smit the order for building an initial dual fuel ship, with two more units on option. The design process is ongoing and keel laying of the first vessel will happen after summer with delivery in August 2015 from the yard in Westerbroek, Groningen (Netherlands).
The Ferus Smit FS 5850 ECOBULKER DF will be equipped with a Wärtsilä 6L34DF main engine and a pressurized LNG tank with a capacity of 112,5 m3, enabling round trips of about two weeks. Classification will be done by Lloyds Register.
The ships will be bulk oriented general cargo vessels sizing 5,800 tons, with the option to convert them into self-unloaders. They will be of Ice Class 1A (Finnish/Swedish) and suitable for year-round Baltic service.
